The first world in the sequence with weather you could tell a child about. Nitrogen air. Methane rain. Lakes and seas.

What the cameras and papers show

Titan’s air is mostly nitrogen, about one and a half bars — thicker than Earth’s. Methane plays the part water plays here: cloud, rain, river, sea. Surface temperature is about −180 °C.

Huygens landed in 2005 on a damp, pebble-strewn plain. Cassini watched spring storms darken the equator in 2010–2011. Polar seas such as Kraken Mare are liquid hydrocarbons.

A 2012 MIT study said the river networks look too little-eroded for a billion years of the present drizzle. That clipping was already on this domain in 2015.

How this site reads it

Compared with Earth, this is a dense nitrogen world with organic haze, rain, and seas — weather, not a barren ice ball.

The hypothesis: Titan is the first-atmosphere stage of the present cycle, after Callisto’s quiet lid.

What would kill this stage

If Titan has always belonged to Saturn, with no quiet ice-lid predecessor, Stage 5 comes off the table.
